Committed Christians serving Christ

Rev. John Q. Kenzy

Rev. John Q. Kenzy

Formerly President of Youth Challenge International Bible Institute

Now preparing to train thousands of Teen Challenge workers worldwide

I met John Kenzy on New Year’s Day, 1969, and we became close friends. Joy and I have remained in close contact with John and Carol Kenzy through nearly three decades. Those who have read “The Cross and the Switchblade,” will identify John Kenzy as the young man who accompanied David Wilkerson to New York to evangelize the knife-wielding gang members who were made famous in “West Side Story.”Later, with scores of drug addicts, alcoholics and prostitutes receiving Jesus as Savior, Dave Wilkerson recognized the need for a Bible institute to prepare the more committed to enter the ministry and return to the streets as part of a growing army of Christian evangelists. Teen Challenge Institute of Missions, in Rhinebeck, New York became the vehicle, and John Kenzy was destined to become its president. Later, the Institute was relocated to Sunbury, Pennsylvania and renamed Youth Challenge International Bible Institute. Brother Kenzy remained president for over 35 years, until the board acted upon the realization that alocal school could no longer meet the needs of a truly international ministry. Now he is preparing the curriculum and establishing the system by which he will travel to nearly every continent to train those who will go in turn train the tens of thousands of workers worldwide. What more need be said?

Dr. John Q. Kenzy, Youth Challenge International

The needs for training thousands of committed Teen Challenge workers has become global. With the closing of the Youth Challenge campus, the Kenzys and their staff should be free to support Teen Challenge training needs around the world. But the sale of the old Youth Challenge facilities have been held up by local red tape. Here are Dr. Kenzy's comments on the current status of the sale. [The editors]

We received our long-sought sewage permit last week to install a private sand mound system, serving the former President's Residence. Also, we received approval of the Preliminary Plan for the major subdivision application on August 19. Once the Planning Commission approves the final plans on September 20, final approval of the plan will given on October 1, 2007 by the township Supervisors and property sales can begin. We now have four parties interested in the residual property (everything south of the main intersecting road). Pray that this competition will increase the final sale price. (About January, 2008)
